Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy opened its doors to sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students as a restructured school in August 2009. The school was conceptualized with a plan to improve student and teacher proficiency in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) through the use of aerospace concepts to bridge subjects across the curriculum. District 11 and the Space Foundation have united to create a fully integrated, aerospace-focused, STEAM-centered campus.
Supported by a Magnet Schools Assistance Program grant, Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy will continue to evolve as an aerospace Magnet school by creating a rigorous, relevant curriculum that is augmented by strong community partnerships and 21st Century technology. It will “scream the theme” of aerospace and continue to develop its onsite STEM teacher training center, the Space Foundation Discovery Institute.
